Dear Parents of our Parish's Middle and High School Teens,
Hello! Today our "Online Parent Ministry" makes its debut! Every Tuesday, an email like this one will be sent home to you. Here are some things you can expect to be included each week... there will be a theme, links to articles, videos, and much more to help you know more about your teen's world. Occasionally, "conversation starters" will be included to encourage you to have some great talks with your teen. We're just getting started! Things will be added as we go along and improvements will be made! There will also be offerings in the email to help you continue developing your own faith formation! Stay tuned!
One permanent feature of our Online Parent Ministry is the "Family Experiences." Click on the link below and then click on whatever grade your teen is in this school year. You will find a few downloads including a page called "the Development Guide" that details all the physical, spiritual, and social changes your teen will experience at that particular age. It's full of good information! The other pages will help you plan that year's "Family Experience."
The "Family Experience" is a type of Rite of Passage to celebrate that year of your teen's life. As Americans, we don't really have "Rites of Passage." Getting a license might be about as close as we get... What about celebrating becoming 13? Or learning about appreciating your family tree? Learning about money and budgeting? Or a blessing on their life as they turn 18? I really hope you give the Family Experience a try! Look at the provided materials and feel free to make changes or additions - heck, you might be inspired to make one up on your own! I would love to hear about what you come up with! Dear Parents,
Click the link below for our first week's topic - it's all about sports! Is sports taking over your life, OR is it your life? Does your teen's participation in sports glorify God and is a way for your teen to develop their God-given abilities, or do sports keep your teen from developing and practicing their faith life? Our 'Huddle Up" resource will give you and your teen an opportunity to talk about sports and our faith!
Every week, I will provide you with another resource that will help you and your family be more present and prepared to receive the message of the Mass! Read the readings before you come to Church, and take a look at the rest of the "Sunday Alive!" handout. It also contains the Saint of the Week, discussion questions for the family on the message of this Sunday's Gospel, and much more! Enjoy!
